StoryCharles was born in Sunderland to mother Alma Mill b1863 on the 1911 census she was down as a widow at only 43. She also had a son Joseph Mill b1892 a shipwright, Charles at the time 17 was a Grocers errand boy and a sister Lily b1896 was unemployed. They lived at 10 Mulgrove Street which was on the North Side of the river in the area that is now next to the glass center. On the absent voters list in 1918 he was living in East Boldon and serving on the Colossuss as a stoker. Charles married in 1922 in Sunderland to a Hannah Nelson b25/5/1900. On the 1939 census Charles was now a public house manager at the Crispin Inn Church Street in Chesterfield living with his wife, no children listed.
