Story | Captain Halcrow Husband of Rachel Halcrow died 31/5/1943 aged 45 after his ship hit a mine. On 8th November 1940 the Catford survived a gunfire attack by German aircraft in the Thames estuary. The vessel also survived detonating a German mine, off Oaze Bank on the 26th January 1941. On 31st May 1943 the coaster was on passage from London to the Tyne, when she foundered and was lost, after detonating a German mine off the Mouth of the Humber. The Master and four of the crew lost their lives. Memorial Tower Hill panel 24.
