StoryDaniel was a miner by trade a "Coal Putter" at Boldon pit on the 1911 census. He lived was his father William Gibson b1857 a "miner Shafter", mother Ellener Gibson b1862 and sister Lydia b1886. On the 1901 census they lived in church street and also had listed another daughter Elizabeth b1888 and a son James b1889. Although Daniel was in the Navy, he was in the Royal Naval Reserve. In 1914 there were over 40,000 men in this reserve with no ships allocated, they there fore turned into the 63rd Royal Navy divison then subdivided into various battalions named after ex - naval commanders. Ie Drake, Hawke, Benbow and Hood etc These battalions went onto fight in france, flanders, galipoli and Eygpt etc. Daniel according to his service record served in the Hood Battalion, he was over this period involved in several engagements where he was gassed and also shot in the left buttock.
