| Story | Joseph age 3 on the 1891 census was living in 132 Robertson Street Westoe South shields with father Joseph b1862 a Printer and mother Mary Elizabeth Richmond b1866. By 1901 Joseph's father had died and Mary was working as a shop keeper and joseph aged 13 her assistant. Forward another 10 years to 1911 and Mary still a Widow is now a housekeeper to her son who is a Marine engineering fitter.During the war Joseph was married and living in East View Boldon Colliery, he was serving in the Navy and held the rank of Sub Leuitenant. On the electrol role of 1918 Joseph was serving on the HMS Island Prince a Grimsby Type Trawler that had been commandeered for the war effort as a mine sweeper possibly based on the Tyne.
